  Epocrates AutoUpdate Palm/Win
  Question
This FAQ answers the following questions.
  • How do I AutoUpdate?
  • How do I add or make changes to my AutoUpdate server for Epocrates?
  Answer
AutoUpdate is the Epocrates program that updates your subscription. Under normal circumstances, AutoUpdate is configured during the install process.

Here's how to configure AutoUpdate for a Palm device that connects to a Windows computer.
  1. On your computer, click Start, Programs, Epocrates , Epocrates.
  2. Click to select the appropriate Palm Device Name from the drop down menu.

  3. Remove all Epocrates servers listed by highlighting each server and clicking Remove.
  4. Click Add Server and then Expert (if available) to display the following screen:

  5. Enter the following information:
    - Server name: Epocrates Server
    - Host name: sync7.epocrates.com
    - Server Port: 80
    - Username: [Your Epocrates Username]
    - Password: [Your Epocrates Password]

The Epocrates username and password are CASE SENSITIVE. Be sure that all uppercase and lowercase letters are typed accordingly.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Test Connection to test your connection. If it fails, please ensure you are online and have all Proxy Servers or Firewall either configured properly or disabled.
  8. Click Close.
Your system is now configured correctly and will automatically query the AutoUpdate server for the latest Epocrates information. You should see the AutoUpdate window open on your computer screen during your next HotSync Process.

If AutoUpdate does not attempt to access our web site, verify that your Epocrates conduits are configured properly. This process will vary depending on your Windows version.

If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP...
  1. On your computer, click the HotSync Manager icon in the lower right hand corner of your system tray then click "Custom."
  2. If Epocrates is not listed, stop here. You will need to reinstall Epocrates software.
  3. Double click Epocrates, select "Synchronize The Files" and place a check mark by "Set As Default". Click OK.
If you have Windows Vista...
  1. Locate the Hot Sync manager icon in the lower right corner of your computer screen and right click it. Select "Settings".
  2. In the box that appears, verify that your Palm username is highlighted in the area that says "Hot Sync Manager settings for______," where "______" is your Palm Username.
  3. Select "Applications."
  4. A list of applications that you synchronize with your Palm will appear.
  5. If Epocrates is not listed, stop here. You will need to reinstall Epocrates software.
  6. To turn the Epocrates conduit ON and sync to our server, double click the line that says Epocrates. Place a check mark next to "Synchronize the files", then check the box that says "Set as Default" and click OK to save the changes.

After taking these steps, please HotSync your device while connected to the internet. Epocrates should now be updating.
