How can I change my firewall settings to enable me to download Epocrates software?
  Answer
Click the appropriate link for instructions regarding how to configure Norton's Personal Firewall on a Windows computer to work with Epocrates AutoUpdate.

Palm
  1. If the installer is being run for the first time, you should see a prompt from Norton's firewall after entering the Epocrates username and password.

"Always block" is Norton's recommended default option. Select "Always permit".

  2. If "Always block" is inadvertently selected, the following error will be displayed.

Click "OK" at this prompt. Then, on the Epocrates AutoUpdate Settings prompt, click "Cancel". This will allow the install to complete. But, AutoUpdate will report the following error during the HotSync.

To get past this error, Norton will need to be reconfigured to allow AutoUpdate access to the Internet.

  3. Double click on the Norton Personal Firewall icon.

  4. Click on "Personal Firewall".

  5. Click on the "Configure" in the lower right portion of the Personal Firewall window.

  6. Click on the "Programs" tab.

  7. In the "Manual Program Control" list, locate UserLogin.exe. Left click on the arrow and select Permit All from the list, then click on OK button.

  8. During the HotSync, you may get the following prompt.

"Block" is Norton's recommended default option. Select "Always permit".

  9. If "Block" is inadvertently selected, the following error will be displayed.

    Click "OK" at this prompt.

  10. Once the HotSync process completes, return to the "Manual Program Control" list in Norton's Personal Firewall. Locate "Palm Desktop" in the list and set it to "Permit All".

The synchronization process should now complete successfully.
