  How do I disable my Windows XP firewall allowing AutoUpdate internet access?
  Answer
  Click the appropriate link for instructions disabling/configuring your Window XP firewall. If you do not know which Windows XP version you have installed, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, System. Within the General tab, you will see which SP version you have installed. Click Cancel to close.


Windows XP SP1

  1. On your computer, click Start then My Network Places.
  2. Right mouse click Local Area Connection and select Properties.

    If you do not see Local Area Connection, click View Network Connections then repeat the above step.

  3. Click Advanced then remove the check mark under Internet Connection Firewall.
  4. Click OK to close.


Windows XP SP2

  1. Click Start, Control Panel, Security Center then Windows Firewall.
  2. Remove the Don’t allow exceptions check mark if previously selected.
  3. Click Exceptions then Add Program to reveal the Add a Program window.

  4. Select the appropriate Programs depending on your Epocrates Rx application.
    • Palm / Windows - select Epocrates and click OK. Click Add Program, HotSync Manager then OK.
    • Pocket PC / Windows - select AutoUpdate Now! and click OK. Click Add Program, Microsoft ActiveSync then OK.
  5. Click OK then OK to close.
  6. Your next AutoUpdate should download the latest updates from our web site.
