My handheld cannot establish a connection to my computer. What should I do?
  Question
When I attempt to HotSync, I get a message indicating that the connection between my handheld device and computer could not be established. How do I fix this connection?
  Answer
Note: This answer pertains only to the Palm operating system. If you are receiving a connection error regarding a Windows Mobile device, this answer does not apply.

If you have received an error that the connection between your handheld and desktop cannot be established, this means that your computer and handheld are not communicating and the HotSync manager cannot initialize a HotSync. This issue is not directly related to Epocrates, however, here are some basic troubleshooting recommendations we received from Palm Support:

Try these one at a time, and try to HotSync between each step; if the first step does not resolve the problem, proceed to the next.

  • Check to ensure that your HotSync manager is running on the desktop. You'll see the small red and blue icon in the lower right corner of your desktop if it is. If you need to restart the HotSync manager, go to Start>Programs and then Palm Desktop and click the HotSync manager icon you see there. The HotSync manager should then reappear in the system tray.
  • Check the physical connection between your handheld and computer. Is the cable securely connected to the port? Disconnect it and then reconnect it if you are not sure.
  • Reboot your computer and try to sync again once it is back on

If this still does not resolve your issue, please contact your handheld manufacturer for further assistance.
