Checking Available Memory on a BlackBerry

  1. From the "Applications" menu, select "Options."
  2. Select "Status."
  3. "File Free" will tell you the available memory in bytes. "File Total" will tell you the total memory in bytes. One thousand bytes equals one kilobyte, and one thousand kilobytes equals one megabyte.

    Example: 15689347 bytes is = 15.689347 MB

Epocrates' Memory Requirements

  • Epocrates Essentials for BlackBerry requires a minimum of 19 MB free space plus 20k for each formulary selected. Up to 13 MB will be put on a memory card, if one is present in the BlackBerry.
  • Epocrates Rx Pro for BlackBerry requires a minimum of 11 MB free space plus 20k for each formulary selected. Up to 5 MB will be put on a memory card, if one is present in the BlackBerry.
  • Epocrates Rx Free requires a minimum of 10 MB free space plus 20k for each formulary. Up to 5 MB will be put on a memory card, if one is present in the BlackBerry.
  • Blackberry 8310 and 8830 World Edition require a memory card for Essentials to function correctly.

Managing Memory on a BlackBerry

To free-up device memory, we recommend that you delete unused applications.

  1. From your BlackBerry applications menu select "Options"
  2. From the Options application, select Advanced Options and then Applications. You should a list similar to this:

  3. Highlight the application you want to delete and display the menu, then select delete. (e.g. language packets, sample videos, games, etc.)

    Note: When prompted to restart select No until all of the unneeded items are deleted.

  4. When the unneeded items have been deleted, remove battery for 30 seconds and re-boot the device.
It would also be worthwhile to delete any call logs.

  1. Go into the Messages application and press the menu key.
  2. Select View Folder, then select Phone Call Logs.
  3. Scroll to the top date and highlight it.
  4. Press the menu key and select Delete Prior.

Managing a BlackBerry's Memory Card


To free-up memory on your Micro-SD card we recommend that you delete unneeded media. You can remove videos or pictures by connecting your device to a computer and transferring the files. If you’ve already transferred a copy or no longer need the media files, we recommend that you delete them to free-up space.
  1. Go to the media application. You can find files under music, videos, pictures, etc.
  2. Highlight the media you want to delete and display the menu, then select delete.
