Not a valid Pocket PC Application
  Question
How do I correct the "not a valid Pocket PC application" error?
  Answer
This error is caused by an older DLL file on the handheld. A new version of this file, EpocSuiteLib.dll, can be found in the ZIP file attached to this FAQ article (see below). Right click on this file (EpocSuiteLib.zip) and save it to your Windows Desktop. Double-clicking on it should open the compressed folder and display the the library file EpocSuiteLib.dll. Drag and drop this DLL file to your Windows desktop.

Connect the handheld device to the computer and wait until ActiveSync indicates that the device is connected and synchronized. If necessary, cancel Epocrates AutoUpdate. Then, from within ActiveSync on the computer, click on Tools and select Explore Pocket PC. Double-click on "My Windows Mobile-Based Device," and then on "Program Files" and then on the "Essentials" folder. If the Program Files or Essentials folders are not visible, click on the Tools menu and select "Folder Options." Click on the View tab. Under "Hidden files and folders," mark the circle for "Show hidden files and folders," and click OK.

Drag EpocSuiteLib.dll from the Windows desktop on the computer into the Essentials folder in ActiveSync Explorer. Close the ActiveSync Explorer window.

This should trigger ActiveSync to sync again, writing the new EpocSuiteLib.dll file to the handheld device. This, in turn, should solve the sync problems you've been encountering.

If you have WIndows Vista, here are the steps for using Windows Mobile Device Center.

1. Connect your Pocket PC to the computer.
2. In the Sync Center window that comes up, hover your mouse over 'File Management'. (If the Windows Mobile Device Center window does not appear, click on Start, then All Programs, then Window Mobile Device Center.)
3. Click on 'Browse the contents of your device'.
4. In the window that comes up, double click on either 'My Windows-Mobile Based Device', 'My Pocket PC', simply a ' \ '.
5. Open the Program Files folder, then the Essentials folder.
6. Drag and drop the EpocSuiteLib.dll file into the Essentials folder, replacing the file already there.
